Visit Hampi, The Ruins Of Karnataka

The south of the country houses as unique and amazing places as the most famous ruins of Karnataka, where beautiful architecture is combined with a unique landscape. Would you like to visit Hampi?

Known as the City of Victory for its past as capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, even today the population of Karnataka continues to fascinate travelers who come to know it even though, logically, it has lost part of the glory and prosperity that characterized it before the fall of the empire in 1565.

Located to the north of the state of Karnataka, the ruins of Hampi discover those who travel through a charming mix of Islamic architecture with certain oriental touches along with an impressive natural landscape, the result of volcanic activity that occurred millions of years ago in this place . As a result we find gigantic stones molded by years of erosion that serve as a perfect accompaniment to the dozens of temples and sacred areas that make up the famous Hampi ruins by travel via Golden Chariot.

In fact, the population of Hampi is divided into two zones: Virupapur Gadde and Hampi Bazaar , separated by the Tungabhadra River. It is in the latter that we find the largest collection of ruins, temples and buildings in Hampi - being able to find more than 350-, although it is worth traveling both since the distance is very short and the river can be crossed both by motor boat - until 6 in the afternoon - as with rowing boats .

When visiting Hampi , its sacred area is made up of dozens of cult buildings, temples, statues and religious sculptures. Stresses the famous Virupaksha temple , dedicated to the god Shiva, which is considered one of the most sacred and important in all of India and, today, remains virtually intact . The temple - declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 - consists of a sanctuary, three chambers and several column rooms, although one of the things that attracts the most attention is its spectacular 50-meter stepped tower full of statues dedicated to hundreds of different gods and goddesses. The Vittala Temple complex is also well known, where there are several hollow pillars that emit sounds and a stone carriage that has become the symbol of Hampi's tourism.

On the other hand, in the royal zone, ancient palaces, barracks and fortifications predominate , among which the Lotus Mahal stands out , a palace used by the queens of the ancient empire to rest and relax, with a symmetrical structure of two floors and several conduits that allowed the constant flow of air throughout the building on the hot days typical of Hampi.

Before planning your trip, know more about the Golden Chariot train tariff. Visit Hampi and its ruins usually takes about a day and the best way to move between its different areas is on foot or by bicycle.
